The HPE Q1J06A MSA 2050 LFF Disk Enclosure is a 2U rackmount storage expansion unit designed to increase the capacity of compatible HPE MSA storage arrays. Important: The Q1J06A is an expansion enclosure, not a complete dual-controller MSA storage array. Usable capacity depends on the number and capacity of installed, supported drives.
The Q1J06A is designed primarily for the HPE MSA 2050 SAN Storage family. HPE also documents its use with selected MSA 2052, MSA 2040, MSA 2042, MSA 1050 and MSA 1040 configurations.
Compatibility depends on the controller model, installed firmware and supported expansion topology.
Do not assume compatibility with HPE MSA 2060, MSA 2070 or unrelated ProLiant Smart Array controllers. These systems use different supported expansion configurations.
The enclosure accepts supported HPE MSA 3.5-inch SAS drives, including selected enterprise SSDs and SAS Midline hard drives. SATA drives and generic server drives should not be assumed compatible.
The Q1J06A does not provide a fixed storage capacity by itself. Total raw capacity is calculated from the installed drives, while usable capacity depends on RAID configuration, spare-drive allocation and system overhead.
For the MSA 2050 family, HPE documents configurations supporting up to 96 LFF drives across the controller and expansion enclosures.
Before installation, confirm available rack space, power connections, compatible drive carriers and the correct SAS expansion cabling.
HPE specifies two 0.5m Mini-SAS cables with the standard enclosure configuration. For Refurbished units, confirm that both I/O modules, power supplies, rack rails and required cables are included, as supplied contents can vary.
